Housing Task Force

Currently Meeting: Second Monday of each month, 7-8 PM via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89722324705

The Housing Task Force is a dedicated group of advocates committed to addressing the housing needs of people with disabilities in an affordable and accessible manner. This task force has been established to identify and implement strategies that promote inclusive housing options, remove barriers, and enhance the overall living conditions for individuals with disabilities.

The task force meets on a monthly basis, conducting meetings on the second Monday of each month. These gatherings serve as a platform for members to share knowledge, discuss challenges, and develop innovative solutions that aim to improve the availability and affordability of housing options for people with disabilities.

Affordable, Accessible, Appropriately Supportive Housing

The Many Paths to Home: Everyone deserves to live with dignity and have real choices about where they call home, including people with disabilities. Young adults with disabilities should have the same expectation as anyone else to live in their community. They should have a safe place to live where they feel comfortable and respected.

Each person has their own needs, preferences, and ideas about what makes a good home. This means there should be a range of housing options so that people can choose what works best for them. With the right supports in place, there are many ways to find a good home. But for many adults with disabilities, the only option is to live with family well into adulthood—not because they want to, but because there aren’t enough other choices available.

New Hampshire’s affordable housing shortage affects everyone, but it’s even harder on people with developmental disabilities. This lack of accessible, affordable housing takes away choice, making it difficult for people with disabilities to live on their own terms.

True dignity means having the freedom to choose where and how to live. Expanding housing options for people with disabilities is essential, so they can make their own choices, live independently, and be full members of the community.
