Partners

ABLE NH was formed through the efforts of New Hampshire’s three federal Developmental Disability Network partners.

Disability Rights Center – NH

The Disability Rights Center of NH (DRC-NH) is dedicated to eliminating barriers existing in New Hampshire to the full and equal enjoyment of civil and other legal rights by people with disabilities. The DRC is NH’s designated Protection and Advocacy agency and authorized by federal statute “to pursue legal, administrative, and other appropriate remedies” on behalf of individuals with disabilities. DRC-NH is a statewide organization independent from the state government or service providers.

DRC-NH believes it is critical that NH has a grassroots advocacy organization to support the voices of people with disabilities and their families. DRC-NH strongly supports these efforts to organize and support people with disabilities and their families to join together to advocate for themselves locally and across the state by having the Executive Director of DRC serve as an advisory member of the ABLE NH Board of Directors.

Institute on Disability at UNH

The Institute on Disability at UNH (IOD) promotes full access, equal opportunities, and participation for all persons by strengthening communities and advancing policy and systems change, promising practices, education, and research. They offer a university-based focus for the improvement of knowledge, policies, and practices related to the lives of people with disabilities and their families. The Executive Director of the IOD serves as an advisory member of the ABLE NH Board of Directors.

New Hampshire Council on Developmental Disabilities

The New Hampshire Council on Developmental Disabilities (NHCDD) is dedicated to “dignity, full rights of citizenship, cultural diversity, equal opportunities and full participation for all NH citizens with developmental disabilities.” The Council does this through advocacy, capacity building, and systems change work to improve the lives of NH citizens with developmental disabilities.

The NHCDD recognizes the need for an organized state-wide advocacy presence and continues to support ABLE NH as advocates for the civil and human rights of people with disabilities. ABLE NH’s work to promote full participation and inclusion of individuals with disabilities by improving systems of support, connecting families, inspiring communities, and influencing public policy, is directly in line with NHCDD’s own mission. NHCDD and ABLE NH are strong community partners that collaborate regularly to improve the lived experiences of individuals with disabilities, their families, and the workforce that supports them. The Executive Director of NHCDD serves as an advisory member of the ABLE NH Board of Directors and NHCDD also supports ABLE by providing meeting space.
